Learning to Fly

Congratulations if you have taken the decision to learn to fly an aeroplane.

Flying in Australia is fun and rewarding. You'll have new skills, meet new people, open doors to a challenging career or just enjoy your new found freedom of flight.

Our Instructors

Our instructors are a group of highly trained professionals who are willing and able to help you become a pilot.

Your progress and skill levels will be closely monitored throughout your training time, and our team of professionals will bring out the best in you.

Levels and Requirements

The Australian Aviation Industry is one of the most strict and safest in the world.

NQAC can train you to the level you desire.
Below we have provided information regarding current Licence Types, Government Legislation and Requirements.

Overseas Pilots - Dual Scenics
The North Queensland Aero Club is unable to private hire aircraft to those that do not hold a full Australian Licence, however, if you are a pilot from overseas and you would like to do some flying around Cairns while you are holidaying here this is very easy to do. We call these Dual Scenics!

We have experienced and friendly instructors that can show you around.  You do the flying, bring your family or friend in the back if you wish and off you go around the reef, the rainforest or the outback.  It is all within a very short flying time of Cairns.  Cairns is a Class C airport however you don’t need to worry about this as the instructor will do all the radio work and navigation for you.  You just sit back and fly the aircraft and enjoy the spectacular scenery.  You will leave the Class C airspace shortly after take off and then it is all the freedom of Class G.  For hundreds of miles!!

You can fly for as long or a short time as you like and see whatever parts of this paradise that you choose, please refer to our hourly rates for the costings.

This is of course all weather dependant however the weather here is usually no problem for local flights.

No need to bring all your paperwork, just bring your licence to prove you are actually a pilot, but you can leave your log book at home.  All the flying you do with us can go in your log book as dual.

Please send us an email to make a booking.  nqaeroclub@iprimus.com.au
Fly for Fun
Having a Private Pilots Licence opens a whole new world of fun and adventure as well as providing a cost effective means of transport. Imagine flying yourself to Brisbane or beyond, instead of flying with a commercial airline, or worse still driving for hours and hours.
